Description
Gospel of Mark - today's background information, is key to understanding this Gospel. If it was truly the first recorded book of the Bible it holds many keys to the foundational truths of Christianity. Therefore we must look at the key players Peter (the eyewitness) & John Mark (the recorder and missionary). The key personal information presented here, along with the personal relationships is important in understanding the "good news message" of who Jesus Christ is as presented in the gospel of Mark. I did make sermon notes for this that have all the details (related Scripture verses) if you want them simply call or email me for a copy. 46min

Today's special guest is Rufus Gerabaldy (a.k.a. Pastor Nelson) who has been leading a rough life without Christ. He knows nothing of the Bible or what it means to live the Christian life. The people in our little church will attempt to answer his questions concerning life, the Bible, and having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. A personal testimony will be given as an example of how easy it is to share Jesus was someone that has no clue. Many good points are brought out in the discussion by various people without using a lot of Scripture with poor Rufus who has not a clue about God. 52min
John 7d "Advent" History & Meaning
Loading the player...
Description
In light of the season we are in - I thought it would be good to explain a little about the history and meaning of the four Sundays or weeks before Christmas. Commonly known as Advent. Some denominations or churches make quite a big deal out of this "Advent Season". Is that right or wrong? Why should we even consider this practice that goes back to roughly 300 A.D. ? I'm praying that this teaching will be meaningful because it all centers on Jesus Christ and God's promises to mankind. In thinking about Christ's "first coming" as the promised Messiah there is also Christ's "second coming" that we must be anticipating. These two comings are at the very core of Advent. So I hope you enjoy finding out about the five candles representing (1) "Hope" or promise candle & the prophecies foretold - past, present, and future (2) the preparation and expectant waiting or the "Faith" candle (3) the "Joy" candle or shepherds candle when the Messiah was actually born in Bethlehem (4) the "Love" candle or adoration candle when we are declared part of the family of God (5) and in the center most important of all "The Christ" candle - for HE is truly the light of the world. 32min

Description
John 6:41-58 Today's lesson may be very difficult for the non-Christian or the new Christian. What scripture has to say today ties directly into last week's sermon but goes into even more depth about Christ being the "bread of everlasting life". We must remember that Jesus spoke in a way that sometimes offended those who did not comprehend the spiritual implications of what He was saying. I am very aware this is a touchy section of Scripture, and just like we will talk about next week .... some people may be totally turned off and turn away by what Jesus had to say. But please remember these spiritual truths must sometimes be contemplated at a deeper depth. We each need to meditate on these Words of Jesus and figure out how it applies to us individually. The central question is: what does it mean to "feed on (or eat) Jesus (and His words of truth)"? In short, how do we assimilate Jesus Christ into our lives? 42min

But there are some very interesting things that you need to know about the Gospel of John. I'm very excited about this new study, and once we get through today I'm sure in our future studies in this great book of John you will have a whole new appreciation for how God arranged His message of Life to us. Description
John 1:14 Here at Calvary Chapel Sheridan, we decided at the beginning of the year to take 52 Scriptures, one each week, and build a solid foundation for the Christian life and illustrate core Christian principles. (These verses are from a John MacArthur study) This is the 19th week of 2018 and as God would arrange it is 2Cor 5:21 which fits in perfectly with this week's sermon (hope you like it). Therefore, I have added in a short little segment on our study verse before the sermon. When we carefully examine the Word of God each word & verse are so important to understand. As you will hear I have picked a number of Scriptures to back up the truths contained in John 1:14. Each of these verses give us a slightly different insight to what our primary verse really means & I pray that this sermon will give you a deeper insight into who Jesus is and encourage you in your Christian walk. 52min

Description
John 1:19-28 With some background information on John the Baptist, hopefully these verses will be even more meaningful. John the Baptist was the last Old Testament prophet, making the way smoother for the introduction of Messiah (Jesus of Nazareth). It is a hard concept, but remember "The Word" (the Son of God) became flesh. Even though the OT prophecies were extremely clear as to what "the Christ" was to be like, very few of the Jews were anticipating what actually took place. There are some good everyday lessons to be learned from these few short sentences. If you're ever tempted to feel indispensable please just remember John the Baptist. I pray this sermon will prepare you for the big reveal that comes next week. 51min

Now, concerning what John the Baptist had to say about Jesus and His baptism - I pray this subject will be a subject that you will go back and study on your own. It would not be in all four Gospels were it not important. Take your Bible and a little bit of time after listening to this sermon & and discover what the Holy Spirit will teach you personally. 50min

Description
John 1:35-38 These 3 versus & the question that Jesus immediately asked His first two disciples, "What do you seek?" Is going to open the door for a much deeper discussion & understanding of what being a "Christ follower" is all about. I'm thinking that if Jesus had told them the whole truth right off the bat, i.e. the verses that we are going cover today, they might not have followed Him so readily. I hope you understand it's not about what we want, it's about serving the King of Kings, the Lord of lords with our whole mind, heart, & body. Too many Christians think it's just about what they desire - and that is not the case at all. In fact to be a Christ follower is a costly decision that must not be taken lightly. Too many Americans (and others) don't understand the heavy price that must be paid in order to be a true disciple of Jesus Christ. Oh but what a glorious reward when one chooses to follow the beloved Son of God! 40min

Description
John 1:39-51 As we read how Jesus gets his first 5 disciples, there are some interesting lessons to be learned. However, we are going to start today's lesson with week 25 and 26 Bible verses. Jude 24 & 25, and 1John 4:9-10. In looking at our 52 Bible verses for the year, sometimes these fall in line with our Scripture studies in the Gospel of John and sometimes they don't. But I do believe they have value in our growth. Anyway, there are some subtle lessons from John's Gospel that we need to pick up today. The big question for the day is: who do you think Jesus is? How closely are you following him? Is your relationship with Him a first priority in life? In this day and age it is hard to imagine these 5 men dropped everything to follow Jesus immediately. Jesus is still saying "come, follow me - you will see greater things than these". Are you willing? 39min PS I have a fantastic, thought-provoking, 7 page article on how amazing & transforming God's GRACE is. Description
John 10:11-30 Have you ever actually considered what a Good Shepherd is? When Jesus said he was the Good Shepherd - He literally was saying I am God in the flesh and I am here to lead you to heaven, if you will follow me. Even with an offer like that many of us human beings have a stubborn streak just like some sheep, or rebellious dogs. In this teaching you will see how closely Jesus paralleled many Old Testament promises and scriptures. As you listen you need to think about that Jesus knows those who are His, and those who will never follow Him regardless of how much love and care He would want to show them. When the Jews asked him if he was the Christ, by this time he had done so many miracles that only God could perform, the question lingers why would they even ask. Another key point is the Good Shepherd is taking care of you, always. But do you trust Him? 37min

The Jews understood very well what he was saying, but there are people today who still say "Jesus never claimed to be God". There are so many lessons here for us in these modern times. Plus we need to go back and examine Matthew chapter 10 to see what Jesus said about the coming persecution of his followers. Another topic taught is why do people refuse Jesus offer of love and forgiveness? John 11:1-16 Today's lesson although not an easy one, is a very important one. How many of you have thought "why me Lord?" or "this can't be happening now Lord!" Well it does! God's timing is not our timing. But we need to understand that God loves us and does hear our prayers. We also need to understand that in this life God allows trials to teach us, grow us, and learn to trust Him more. This story about raising Lazarus from the dead has so many implications. When you and I read the Bible, many times we just gloss over important things and don't really meditate on what those scriptures really mean. I hope this lesson and my hand out (available if you just give me a call) will help you cope with your challenges of life. God bless you in your trials of life! 38min

Just imagine everyone knew Lazarus was dead and now he is raised up and totally restored! the main story is pretty simple but there's a couple of underlying themes that could easily be missed if you're not careful. Like, what level of faith did Mary and Martha have? An in verse 33 what is the real meaning of Jesus groaning and being troubled? Why did Jesus cry? Picture yourself being outside Lazarus' tomb that faithful day - what would you have done? 44min

Remember Jesus had just raised Lazarus after being dead for four days! Some believed, some did not, some totally bewildered, some angry about losing their position and power. The Pharisees said "what shall we do?" The answer - try to kill the one who has power over life and death. Beware of pride and power it can lead to big sin problems. Evil clings to a lie even in the face of truth! Caiaphas, a ruthless, proud, evil man was used by God to prophesy about the truth of Jesus. I am so thankful that in both the Old Testament and the New we can start to understand, at least to some limited extent, what Jesus meant when He said "I am the light of the world". But I'm sure that many of you do not fully comprehend the role you should be playing as God's light. We need to be honest in our witness to others about God's coming rewards and punishment. The world needs to understand that our existence does not end at the time of death. Have your Bibles, paper and pen handy because we are going to be going through quite a few scriptures. Description
John 13:1-10 In this message of the Last Supper & Jesus washing His disciples feet, the implications of His actions go much deeper than it first appears. We need to allow the Holy Spirit to speak to our hearts about Jesus actions concerning humility, service, love, and pride. As we examine these few verses, Jesus meant what He said "you won't understand now, but later you will". I pray that all who hear this lesson will be challenged by what lies beneath these simple words of Scripture. If we are to be true Christ followers, we need to meditate on these few verses and ask ourselves how these holy words apply to me. What meaning is God conveying to us today about foot washing? Is it a simple physical act, or is there something much deeper going on? This message should affect your thinking about what Jesus actually did and your relationship to Him, and how it applies in your actions toward others. 46min

This is a hard concept to grasp, but one that is extremely exciting. Jesus said that "our works" today should be even greater than what He did. How can that be? If you are a Christian, or should I say a "true follower of Jesus Christ", you have within you a very special gift. Today's lesson is going to be a hard teaching. And I will be using many scriptures to support what the Bible teaches about the Holy Spirit who is working in the world today. This teaching should make each of us examine our Christian walk and attitudes. The Bible very plainly tells us about this gift of the Holy Spirit in our life. Are you ready? I pray that you will be listening carefully & examining your own life and walk with our Lord. 49min
